Binky Fairy

Brooklyn is 2 1/2 and still had a binky at night. I never thought I would have a child having a binky that long. I remember before I had kids, I saw this little 2 year old boy at church that had a binky in his mouth. I thought that was the most ridiculous thing ever. Well, go figure, I had a 2 year old with a binky. The only difference was that I would NEVER let Brooklyn go anywhere with it, nor did she get at home when she was awake. She only got it at night or for nap time. I wanted to take it away right when she turned two. I didn't because we were having a baby right about then and I didn't want to take away her comfort, when her life would be dramatically changing. Then after I hesitated taking it away because we were making a big move and for the same reasons she needed that comfort. Well this weekend Wade and I agreed we would take it away. It started when Wade came home from school and said that he thought we should tell her the Binky Fairy was going to come and take it away. We told her that the Binky Fairy would leave her a present. She said she wanted a cake. Ok...so we planned on making a cake. All day we hyped up the Binky Fairy. We let her wear her Tinkerbell shirt to bed and even showed her a picture of a pretty pink Binky Fairy on the Internet. She was PUMPED and talked not stop about it. Then it came time for bed and she asked for it. We hyped it up again and she was ok. She went up to bed without it and woke up the next morning asking to go see if her Binky Fairy left her a cake.

Here she is coming down the stairs all excited.
Wade made her the cake and she LOVED it!

She couldn't wait to try it.
And yes we let her eat it for breakfast since she was such a BIG girl.
She then talked about it all day. She has gone to bed now three nights in a row without the binky. The only problem is she takes about an hour to fall asleep. We hear her on the monitor yapping and yapping and yapping. That girl can talk:) She has this life size Minni stuffed animal that she talks to. She told her all about the Binky Fairy, all about her friends, ect. Every night she just can't stop talking. I guess the binky put her to sleep. We are very proud of her!

Saturday night a friend called Wade and invited him to go to the Tech football game. It was FREEZING outside but they went anyway. Wade was in need of a break so he went. We stayed nice and warm at home and made Halloween cookies. Brooklyn actually decorated hers all by herself. She even managed to eat a few bites out of each of them too. Oh, Brooklyn nice look too!

And on another note, this cute guy is finally holding his own bottle. YAY! This is making life much easier for me. Now we just need to work on holding the bottle the whole way through. He gets tired of holding and drops it, then screams:)

Yay for getting rid of binkies! We just got rid of Kaylee's too. Isn't it so nice? The binky fairy is a good idea:) And Kaylee NEVER held her own bottle. Ugh. So glad Weston is though!

I'll have to remember the "Binky Fairy" for next time. Ben had his until he was about 2 1/2 (which is when we got him the bear I had in primary), and we lost all of Adam's when he was barely 2, so we just told him we couldn't find them and he went right to sleep. Little stinker probably didn't need it after all!

And hooray that Weston is holding his own bottle. That IS really nice.

Hooray! I"m glad she did so well. I love that Hattie doesn't use hers anymore...now I know she can nap or sleep anywhere, even if I forget it!
