LUKE AFB

I am so frustrated with Blogger right now. Any picture that I try to post vertically-automatically flips horizontally. So I have a few posts saved but can't upload them until I figure this out.

But I did just remember that I never posted where we are moving. We finally got our assignment. We are moving to Glendale, AZ and specifically LUKE Air force Base. It was on our top ten wish list. When we got the call we were shocked! We really thought we were going to Alaska or somewhere remote or crazy. Glendale is 30 miles from Phoenix, so we couldn't be happier. There is sooo much to do there. I think it's the 6th biggest city in the US :) We realize we will battle some serious temperatures in the summer and we are still don't know how we will deal with that, but we hear the rest of the year is heaven. So come visit us :)

Some parts of LUKE AFB that get us excited:
*huge pool with slides
*movie theater
*bowling alley
*food court
*nice golf course
*Big stucco houses for officers :)
*nice parks

All of which are on base. We thought for a minute about living off of base. The AF gives us a pretty big housing stipend and we could rent a 4 bedroom house with a pool for 1400/mo. Plus we could pocket the rest of the stipend we get. But......to run your AC for a house that big will cost us (they say) around 350-400/mo and that's at 80 degrees. I can't go to bed with it that hot. So we think we will just live on base rent free and they pay all of our utilities (including the AC bill, even at 70 degrees:)

Really the biggest reason I want to live on base is security. You have to show ID to even get on base, no sex offenders/felons can live there and they have guys walking around patrolling with guns. They told us kids are always out in the neighborhoods and it is completely safe. Done and Done for me because I am kind of a freak and won't even let my kids go the the mail without me watching them.

So that's it! We are THRILLED to be closer to home! Still can't believe JAG is taking us closer and not farther from home :)
