So I know that this blog has been over run by law school info, but that is what our life is right now. We have to make a decision today, so I wanted to put all of our thoughts down and document what we are thinking so we can look back at this later. Sorry if it bores you.
We applied to 13 Law Schools total.
We still have not heard from Las Vegas and N. Carolina...stupid schools.
The Denials we have gotten out of the 11 we have heard from so far are: Uni. of Utah and BYU. No surprise about BYU, we knew that from the very beginning. Guess we were not meant to be in Utah.
Wade had amazing results from the 9 schools he was accepted into.
1.Valparaiso which is in IN offered him 20% off his tuition. Still would have left us with paying 22 thousand...no go!
2. Thomas Jefferson- In San Diego. We both have wanted to live there and go to Law School there ever since his sister Jentry was married there and we visited that place for a week. What a place to live. Too expensive though. They offered a GREAT scholarship of 60, 000 over the 3 years. That would have had us pay somewhere around 10, 000. If it was a better school(compared to others he got into) and the cost of living was reasonable, it could have been a good option. But a no go.
3. Marquette- By far the BEST school he was accepted into. It is ranked very high and is a very good school. Located in Wisconsin...not a fan of living there. They did not offer him any scholarships so we would have been looking at 30 something a year. WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! Bummer because that would have been a great school to attend. We are thankful he got into a school like that!
4. Uni. of Idaho- Did not offer him anything and they would not give him in state even though his parents live there. Not that bummed...
5. Willamette- In OR. Offered a 6,000/year scholarship. That is about all we needed to know. NO GO.
6. Golden Gate- In San Fran. Offered him 75,000 over the 3 years, making our cost 9,000/year. We highly considered this school but as we further researched living there, and the school we just did not feel right about it. Bummer...the closest school to home and the best city ever!
7. Gonzaga- In Spokane. Would love to live there and they also offered him a scholarship of half tuition! We were so thankful for that big news. Great school, great place to live, cheap and just awesome! My favorite choice out of all of them:)
8. Texas Tech- Go Lubbock, Texas! Great Law School! They offered us a small scholarship and offered him in state tuition which makes our cost about 13,000 to go there each year. We have researched this school A TON and are very impressed with everything about it. Plus we hear that people love Texas...hmmmm.
9. Western- FULL RIDE baby! Not the highest ranked school compared to the others, but a very good fit for Wade. I just posted about this school a few days ago, so I won't reiterate.
The reason we need to make a decision today is because we have deposits that we need to get back today from the schools and today is the last day it is refundable. So today is the day! FINALLY THIS IS ALL OVER! The only bummer is that checking the mail everyday will no longer be any fun!
We actually have made our decision. Last night Wade attended the Temple(by back is too bad this week to sit there that long), fasted all day and we were praying our guts out. We both feel at peace with the decision we made. We know we will be on quite the adventure this summer moving there. I feel at peace with this super difficult decision. Wade and I agree that this has been BY FAR the hardest thing we have ever had to do. It would be different if we didn't have children.
Stay tuned...I will let you know soon!
