Potty Training Day 1 & 2

For documentation only( I want to be able to refer back to this with our boy) I am going to keep track everyday of Brooklyn's progress of potty training.

I originally started after Thanksgiving and the first few days were good and then I slacked off big time because of me having to devote so much time to my end of semester projects and studying for my finals. So we decided to try it again this week. Wade and everyone who knows Brooklyn well, keeps telling me that she is ready and that I shouldn't let this opportunity slip by. My problem with her last time is that she would sit on the potty and not go and then 2 minutes later go in her pants and then 2 minutes after that she would go in her pants again. Then she would go periods of no accidents and would even tell me sometimes. But the frequent times she needs to pee in an hour got too frustrating. So here we go again!

Day 1---Brooklyn did very well. Brooklyn learned some bladder control in the month we took a break. She had no accidents for the first 2 hours but no pees in the potty either. Then she went to take a 2 and a half hour nap and maybe peed once or twice in her diaper. Then the two hours after her nap no accidents either! Every 20 minutes we set the microwave timer and when it beeps and she has dry pants she gets 2 little m&m's. Then unfortunately we had my dads birthday dinner at Johny Corino's so we had to put her in a diaper. Then when we got home she had one little accident in her undies! All in all we had a VERY successful day!

Day2---We went to breakfast with our friends from Vegas so she was in a diaper most of the morning. Then when we get home we put her in her undies which she loves! She hates wearing her diaper. Dry pants for a few times. Then my awesome sister came to help keep me company and found her in the kitchen trying to poop. We rush her to the potty and nothing but what was left in her undies (GROSS!) Then 5 minutes later she pees in her pants. Then five minutes after that she pees again in her pants. By this time I am VERY frustrated! Then we have no more accidents for a few more 20 minutes. Then she is sitting on our couch and pees. So gross! Then we head to my parents and she goes on the big potty! YAY! Then has two accidents on their hardwood floor. Gross for them! We come back home and I sit her on the potty and get her feet in a tub of warm water and she goes! YAY! And now we are waiting for the next 20 min. timer to go off!

Any suggestions on what to do??? Are this many accidents right in a row and in a half hour period normal? And she isn't telling me when she needs to go either. She did last time though??? I need to reassurance or to be told to wait a little longer!

Oh and I HATE HATE HATE this process! I don't like having to stay home either!

there is a book called "Potty Training in Less Than a Day" that a lot of people recommended to me when I was first going through this process. I read it and it really does have some good ideas and all of my kids were potty trained in about 4 days. Here are the basic tricks:
-your schedule is FULL with potty training. No leaving the house!!
-give her lots of salty treats & lots of drinks so that she will have to go potty a lot
-try and stay in areas that are easy to clean up

My kids all did sooo good on the first two days. And then on the third day they never made it to the toilet ONCE! On the fourth day they were back to doing really good and after that there were very few accidents. It really did help to not leave the house...it's rotten to be stuck at home, but TOTALLY worth it in the end!

Good luck...I plan on doing that in the next month too! (for the LAST time!!!!! woohoo!!)

I agree with the above comment...no leaving the house! And also..big help...do a reward chart. I had five squares. Pee=1 sticker Poo= 2 stickers. Once all the squares were full she got to pick from a prize box. (Lacey's idea!) That was a huge help! GOOD LUCK!! Keep doing that over and over!

Everybody you ask will have a different opinion about this subject. Guess you have to do what works for your family, but this is good advice I heard from a doctor once, and found to be true:

If you start potty training at 2 yrs old, it'll take a year, at 2 and a half yrs old it'll take 6 months, and closer to 3 yrs old will take a week.

Some would gasp at waiting that long, but maybe now is a little too early for her, and if that's the case, it's okay. She has her whole life to wear big girl underwear.
